Supporters of the Free Library of Philadelphia can help stop the closing of 11 branch libraries by becoming a fan of the library advocacy group Friends of the Free Library of Philadelphia, joining demonstrations against library branch elimination, and contacting Mayor Nutter and members of the Philadelphia City Council to urge that funding be provided to keep all library branches open.

The Free Library hopes everyone had the chance to vote yesterday! Did anyone have to wait in the 4+ hour lines?

Francine Prose is coming to Parkway Central tomorrow (Thursday, Sept. 18) to discuss her new book - Golden Grove.

Prose, author of 15 books of fiction, has been lauded for works such as National Book Award finalist Blue Angel and New York Times nonfiction bestseller Reading Like a Writer. She is the president of the board of the PEN American Center.

At the heart of her new novel, Goldengrove, is a young girl plunged into grief and obsession after the drowning death of her sister. Her parents drift toward their own risky consolations, while 13-year-old Nico is left alone to grope toward understanding.

Take a minute (or five) to check out our plans for the Parkway Central expansion, which will begin within the year. The brochure includes gorgeous renderings and photos of our model (which sits right inside the entrance to Parkway Central).

For the full brochure, which includes information on how the space will be used, visit http://libwww.freelibrary.org/expansion/expandBrochure.pdf.
