Rag Wrap - October 8, 2008 10:58am
It looks like The Gories reunion is true.
Kick Out The Jams - A bunch of local Detroit bands are releasing a MC5 tribute album, while some filmmakers are releasing a doc on their old haunt the Grande Ballroom.
MT's got Pinkeye.
Ray likes Meg White, we get it.
Deep Cutz explains why the JSB Squad are that good.
Keep your eye on this guy.

The Fifty recently started playing house band every other Wednesday at Fifth Avenue. On their latest record Laugh Until It Hurts, the five-piece don't really give you any reason to laugh, but they do offer up some piano-heavy rock.On opening track "There Are Things", prominent Joy Division-esque basslines make way for synthesizers served à la The Killers. They continue with the groovier New Wave route on songs like the funky "The Fight", but overall The Fifty roll with more of a gentler sound. Songs like "The Life & Times of Page Madison" and "Mature For My Age" are more straightforward pop exemplary of the record, and there are a few songs that delve into power ballad territory, like "Shelby, West Virginia" or the barely-electrified closer "Saddle Sores".
At 9 songs and 30 minutes, most of the songs are around the longer than average 4 minute mark, meaning they're a little more meandering and complex than you'd expect from a pop-rock record. That said, the album is still very accessible to most anyone familiar with modern alternative rock.
You can catch The Fifty every other Wednesday at Fifth Avenue in Royal Oak. Laugh Until It Hurts is now available.

Halloween Parties 6:00am
October is here, and that means it's time to get a costume together for those Halloween parties that are coming up. Those looking for a place to spend All Hallows' Eve have a few options: There's, uhh, The Crofoot's "Creepy Cheapy Halloween Treat". A mere $5 gets you into this complex-wide shindig whose centerpiece is a rare Michigan show by The Von Bondies in the Crofoot Ballroom, who will be peddling their new "Pale Bride" 7'' as a treat. Meanwhile, the Pike Room has bands performing "costumed covers": Prussia will be The Smiths, Javelins will be The Strokes, Wildcatting will be T. Rex, and there will be "a special late night guest TBA". The Vernors Room has The Pop Project and free candy, and DJ's will spin all night at the Crofoot Café and the patio. The whole venue doubles as a wedding reception, as TV-20's "Nightmare Sinema" b-movie host-turned Reverend Wolfman Mac will be marrying couples at the Erebus Haunted Attraction beforehand, as well as awarding winners for the "God Awful Costume Contest".
The Go, Magic Shop, Infinity People show at the Magic Stick Halloween night as well. The Go is releasing their new album Tracking The Trail Of The Haunted Beat which is alternative versions of songs from their last album and new unreleased tracks. They're playing under the name The Haunted Beat Band and will be featuring Danny Kroha on guitar for some songs.
There's also the Zombie Dance Party October 24th at The Magic Stick w/ F'ke Blood, Sonic Boom (Sonics cover band w/ Frank Woodman, Johnny Hentch, Alex Decks, and more), and a few other bands.

Is it true? Could it be? The Gories are planning a reunion in 2009. Pray to the rock reunion gods my friends, for we shall all collectively hold our breathes because this one is worth suffocating for.
Metro Mode talks with former 19 Wheels frontman Chris Johnston (Hey Chris take a cue from The Gories and plan a reunion already)
Kid Rock's Detroit centric music video for his new single "Roll On" will premier this coming Friday on MTV.
Next time JW comes to town get your water bottle caps ready (jk).
So CBS censored Alice Cooper, and I think those nipple flashing suites over at the grampa channel should suck an egg? At least the new song "Vengeance Is Mine" kicks some serious metal ass and the studio track and music video features the axe of none other then Slash.
