Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who becomes a part of one's Circle of Trust?
A: People that mutually trust each other belong to the same Circle. However, if one person trusts the other but the trust is not reciprocated, then they are not part of each others' circle of trust. Note that you can never tell if someone is in your circle because they didn't trust you - it might just be the case that they have not voted on you!

Q: What does "should you trust? " mean?
A: This is how much you should trust people that you don't know, based on people that you already trust. Thus, if you and Jane trust each other and Jane and Jim trust each other, then you should be able to trust Jim. Think of it as how much your friends recommend this person.

Q: Why is "should you trust?" sometimes omitted?
A: You can't have this number for your direct peers - it would be a privacy violation for both parties.

Q: What does "political power" mean?
A: It's a pyramid of how many people trust the people that trust you. And the people that trust them - it goes pretty far. This number also means that if you wanted to send a message or thought to the whole world, these are the people who would accept your message as trustworthy, because they have faith in people who have faith in you. Think of it as your influence and reach.

Q: What does "global trust" mean?
A: Just the average trust rating of everyone who rated you. Think of it as your average approval rating.
